Microsoft Word templates – not for the beginner
A number of templates are also provided in MS Word format. Using Word templates require a fairly well-developed understanding of MS Word.
Remember that a template is a pre-set document that allows you to "fill-in" information. A template allows you to create the same type of document (e.g. letters on letterhead) over and over. Download the template from this website and save it to your computer, so you can easily access it every time you need to create a document.
Basically, you use a Word template by clicking on the areas where you want to insert text, putting your desired text into the text box and then saving the document as a ‘.doc’ file. For additional information regarding inserting photos, please refer to "Inserting Photos".
There are a number of tutorials available on the Internet, if you want to improve your working knowledge of Word. Check out http://www.bcschools.net/staff/WordHelp.htm, or http://www.learnthat.com/courses/computer/word/
Again, It may be best to leave some of the Word templates to the professionals. If you are experiencing problems inserting photos into the newsletter template, for example, you may wish to provide your printer with the newsletter copy, and instructions about which photos to insert where (and have them use the InDesign format).
In a word – patience
All this to say – please be patient with yourself and the materials provided as you work through this website. You will soon learn how to use the tools effectively and consistently. We want you to succeed as much as you do!
